Changes to How You Download VMware Software Binaries

Changes to How You Download VMware Software Binaries

Effective April 24th, VMware will operate a single site for product downloads and customers will have to acquire a “download token” to get their hands on code. Each token is unique to the customer, enabling VMware to identify who downloads what.

What’s Changing?

Starting March 24, 2025, there will be an important change to how customers download VMware software binaries (including updates/patches) for VCF, vCenter, ESX, and vSAN File Services. This update streamlines access and aligns with current industry best practices.

Here’s everything you need to know about what’s changing and how it impacts you.

Changes to How You Download VMware Software Binaries

Starting March 24, 2025, VMware will be transitioning from their current binary download process to a new method. This change will:

  • Centralize to a Single Download Site: Software binaries will be downloaded from a single download site vs several different download sites. This is available for both online and air-gapped environments.
  • Introduce Download Verification: Downloads will be authorized through a unique token. The new URLs are embedded with the token to verify that you, as an authorized user/party, are the one downloading the file.

Note: Existing download URLs will be available for a one-month period to help with this transition.

On April 24, 2025, existing download URLs will no longer be valid.
